Barley & Hops Time
What ingredients do you need to make a pint of beer? As you probably know, all it takes is malting barley, water, hops and yeast and hey presto! If you get the right quantities, timing, temperatures and ph, as well as a properly good brewer, you will end up with a decent pint!
Like a lot of small brewers, it this time of year that we place our order for next year's malt and hops from our lovely suppliers. At the moment, we are placing orders for 15 different types of malt, ranging from the pale Lager malt used in Goodens and Perridge, to the darker Maris Otter, through to the Brown, Black and Chocolate malts we use for our Bitters and darker ales. All from the UK. For the hops, we are currently using 27 regular strains, with an even split between home grown and west coast America, plus anything we need for new specials throughout 2024.
